Climb the highest peak in the lower 48 states, Mt. Whitney (14,495 ft.)!
This is a practical introduction to alpine climbing offering a guided climb of Mt. Whitney via the mountaineer's route (class 2-3). It's a great way to explore and climb the highest mountain in the Sierra Nevada and the lower 48 states. A great climb for the beginning mountaineer or intermediate backpacker who wants to climb this peak with fantastic views of the East Face of Mt. Whitney. This route is a classic alpine route involving rock scrambling, cross-country hiking, and a short bit of roped climbing. It can be accomplished by anyone in good to excellent physical condition and who has basic backpacking skills. We will teach you the techniques you need to know to safety ascent Mt. Whitney via the Mountaineer's Route.

Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1
We will meet in Lone Pine, California at 7:00 am on the first day for a pack check and issuing of personal gear. We will car pool a short distance to the Whitney Portal Trailhead and beginning hiking up the Portal Trail for one mile before ascending the North Fork of Lone Pine creek. Establishing a base camp in an around Upper Boy Scout Lake at approx. 11,000 ft. level. As we hike, we will be instructing and holding informal lectures on such topics as route finding, pacing, minimum impact camping and preparing for the next days climb.
Day 2
Up early (Alpine start 2-3 am) for an attempt of Mt. Whitney 14,495 ft. via the mountaineer's route, returning to our base camp by late in the afternoon for a much needed rest and relaxation.
Day 3
We will have a leisurely morning, sleep in, pack up and head down to the Whitney Portal Trailhead and our vehicles arriving by early afternoon.
